My youngest Sexlink layed an egg today(first egg EVER) and I am wondering when my biggest girl, a Barreled Rock, will start to lay. She is about 5-6 months old, and loves to DESTROY my plants. Can you tell me when she will lay?

Spring hatched dual-purpose birds will typically begin to lay at about twenty weeks of age if they've been fed and managed right. Maybe as late as twenty two weeks. Never had one go longer than that unless they were hatched late in the year.

She will lay when her body is ready. Even within the same breed, you will have some that mature early and some that mature late. Early laying can cause laying problems when they age, so it is better on their bodies to lay later.

my two BPRs began at about 6-months. Their combs were very bright red...and they looked ready for about 1-2 weeks before the 'big day'.
Congratulations on your first egg! Your next eggs should be along any day now.
