My young cockerel did not crow at all while he was living in the same henhouse as his father.
But the day that we finally separated father and son at about age 6 months (they got to fighting alot), the cockerel "found his voice" and has been crowing ever since. I think he was too intimidated by the alpha rooster (his father) to crow before then.
