When do Easter Eggers start laying?

Pics
Hi, Bruce--

Thanks for the pictures. So, yes, our girls do have beards, then! Those were some nice pictures as examples. I've discovered that chickens are not all that easy to photograph, especially if you want any detail!

Haha, love the image of Wile E Coyote! I was recalling those cartoons about this time last year when my horse took a big spook out of nowhere after I'd been on him a good 40 minutes or so. He jumped so far sideways that I felt like Wil E Coyote just hanging in the air going "didn't there used to be something between me and the ground?" Thud. Ow. I later got to watch him do something very similar with a trainer on-board so after that I didn't feel so bad about the fall-down-go-boom thing since for a big, hefty pony, he is pretty darn agile (and a big scaredy-cat, too!)

Anyhow, thanks for the link to the pictures. I'll have to try to hijack my husband's computer so I can get at our more recent photos. Meanwhile, here's the big baby, Beau:

Hope your birds are not buried in the snow up there! Some friends of mine are on vacation somewhere in VT and they reported more than 16" of snow yesterday! Whew!
Take care,
Pam

Yay for the blue eggs!

I am still waiting for my eggs...they are about 32 weeks. 4 pullets, one rooster. I keep waiting/watching every day. I just knew for sure I'd have eggs by Christmas. Oh well, they are so sweet, hopefully they will decide to give me an egg, or two, soon.

Hang in there, Crafty Chicken! We live in Virginia and ours didn't start until about week 28. We are now into week 30 and 2 of the 4 still haven't laid and don't give us the "squat" movement yet, either. If you're farther north, the short days and/or the colder weather might be slowing yours down. At least that's what I've read. We have now had 6 eggs in two weeks (plus 2 more that weren't viable) and every time I find one, it's like a little miracle! It will happen soon! Hang in there! Pam

I have 3 EE's that are 28 weeks their combs are still tiny and pale and still no eggs. My other 8 chickens (various breeds) all started around 20-23. Is this normal for them to mature so slowly? They are beautiful and seem very heathy, but just to eggs.

yeah mine just started laying this month and they were 38 weeks I believe... Christmas day was the first blue egg and they lay every day with maybe a day in between. All mine were slow lol

Does it make a difference to what there bred with? Mine was a RIR and americauna . She laid in 2o weeks. I have another which is a mutt not sure who she is mixed with who is 21 weeks and no red face yet.

I don't know the answer to that but one of mine started at 21 weeks, the other not until 24 weeks. I have no idea what is "in" them, they came from Ideal Poultry.
They've been champs though, averaging 5 eggs a week since they started laying.

Bruce
