When do Maran's typically lay?

My Black Copper Marans hen laid her first egg at about 18 or 19 weeks old - the EXACT same day as my Black Ameracauna!
I was so surprised but thrilled beyond belief to see one blue and one dark brown egg in the next box!

Yours should be laying very soon! :D
Lucky you! I have 18 pure Ameracauna eggs in the incubator now. My first time ever with an incubator.:p

My wheaten maran is almost 30 weeks and doesn't even look CLOSE to laying

Well I spoke to soon, my maran laid today a very pretty dark egg. I ate it for dinner lol. I did take a picture of the shell, I will post it later. I'm happy, we did not know for sure what she was, but now I do ;) the age is between 24 and 25 weeks old. ( 6 months old)

Our CM, who is a week older than our other hens, was born the last week in March, she isn't laying yet but today I did a once over on all six hens. And when I was handling her in bright but not direct sun light I saw that her comb really isn't as red and bright as the three chickens that are already laying.

Ours is HUGE compared to the other five hens so I was thinking that, being a larger breed, they might be slower to mature?

It's interesting that you mentioned that your Maran goes into the nest box with another hen because one of our Buff Orps, who still has a small pink comb so is definitely not laying yet, goes into the nest box with one of the RIR's and goes through all the motions of laying with her and even displaces her from her favorite spot. My husband says the Buf Orp training to be a midwife.

My Marans have STILL not layed! One of them was very busy inspecting the nests on Saturday, but alas, no egg from her. Mine are very loud as well. And they sound more like ducks than chickens!
