I also enjoyed reading this thread. I believe I have one bantam marans, Freida, who is almost 7 months old. I got her along with 2 other bantam mixes and one dark brahma, when they were all about 6 weeks old. I was lucky they all turned out to be girls! So far, only one of them has started laying, and that was at 29 weeks - all late bloomers. Luckily, I have one adult red star who lays regularly. They've been a ton of fun, even without the eggs, but now that two are laying, checking out the nesting box is genuinely exciting!
Anyway, I'm posting a bit to show her off, and also to see if y'all agreed she's a marans and if anyone has had bantams. She has lightly feathered legs and is a very impressive flyer, and has a lovely mix of colors, but is super shy - won't let me pet her, but often comes up to say hi.
This is the best picture I have of her, but it's about 2 months old:

This is more recent, but man she's tiny in it.. Freida is in the upper right. Sorry it's such a small picture - she's the shyest of all of them, so I don't have many close-ups. This was taken about 3 weeks ago, but her comb/wattles are still pretty small - not that much bigger than the first picture.
