Thanks, Kunjun! I'm not entirely sure what Frida's parentage is. I've guessed she is a bantam marans, after looking at lots of pictures here. She may be crossed with something else. I might have a better idea once she starts laying.
She's very timid and flies really well.
Hey my lovely friend!!!!!! Penelope (BCM) laid her first egg this week at 24 weeks, 5 days old. She laid 3 eggs in 4 days!!! Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!! Beyond excited
I am feeling better about my Copper Marans now. I have three that are 33 weeks old. One started laying about 5 or 6 weeks ago and will lay about 3 times a week. Lately, however, her eggs have had an unusual color and occasionally a thin shell. The next egg she lays, however, is usually normal. The other two, that were hatched at the same time, have yet to lay. I am just trying to be patient since our whole flock seems to be a little off right now. Some are molting now, instead of last fall and one is broody and another seems to be heading that way. Do they not know it is winter???
Still nothing from my bantam marans, who's almost nine months now. But, my slightly-younger bantam frizzled cochin laid her first little egg today, after a week of squawking and squatting!
