Our blue slate Tom has started mounting our Narragansett hen, we have never had an egg from her before so we were curious if she would even start to lay any! He leaves our bourbon hen completely alone, doesn’t even bother her, (and she’s the older dominant hen, who has been trying to push chickens away from their small coop where they have a hiding spot to lay.) We live in NJ and with all the snow we’ve been getting we were hoping she won’t try to find a spot to nest if it comes to her actually being able to lay! When do they usually start to pop out fertile eggs?
Theres so many different nesting homes we’ve built for them and they all fight over the original coop in the morning, now with snickers trying to claim it we can hope Hershey might think to use it since she’s the one actually being bred
