when do you normally feed your animals

I feed all my animals in the morning, probably because I am up before anyone else in my house, so I feed all the animals and water them, then I dress myself, brush my teeth and get ready to feed kids and hubby then go about my day

Bar dogs, my opinion is that there should be food and water available at ALL times. Dogs and cats need restricted with food but as with anything else they should always have water.

I get up at sunrise to feed the chickens and make sure all the waterers are full. My birds get up hungry. With it being so hot in the evenings, they mostly eat in the mornings before it gets too hot.

I also go around before they start going to roost to make sure everyone has some food to fill their crops for bed if they want.

My animals have feed available at all times. some days it is just a walk by check and other days it is topping off a feeder. I go out and walk through a couple times a day. Just to check and know everything is fine.

Late evening is when I wash and top off waterers daily.

I get up at sunrise to feed them, whether I want to or not. I have a LOUD RIR hen that won't be quiet until she's fed, and I don't want to be a nuisance to the neighbors. I get up, feed the cats so they won't meow and wake up my husband, then go feed the chickens, the ducklings and water plants. I feed them again in the mid-late afternoon. I would just leave food out for them, but the sparrows would eat it all.

P.S. Anyone in Phx want a RIR hen?

Alas, sounds like there are others out there who also feed all the critters before they feed themselves.

Me, too. I set my alarm every morning (weekends included) so I can get up and let the hens out of the coop, feed them fresh goodies and a bit of scratch, and check their water. I also leave a mix of layer pellets/mash out for them all the time, and I check it 2x a day.

In the mornings I then feed the rest of the critters, let some out, let some in, etc. In the evenings it's pretty much the same ~ but then *I* get to have dinner and sometimes even a nice glass of wine. . . until one of the critters starts hollering about something. *sigh*

Wouldn't trade it for anything . . . except maybe more critters.


P.S. - getting back to the heart of the original question ~ The hens want food just as soon as they get up in the morning. At the end of the eve my hens have nice, stuffed crops and toddle off to bed. Unlike us, birds should go to bed full.

I have 12 chickens, two dogs, one cat and a turtle. Except fot the turtle, they all have food avaliable 24/7. I put out fresh water every morning and check that their auto feeders are working and have plently of food avaliable. I have never had a problem with any of my animals overeating or becoming obese. They eat what they need and no more. My dogs especially love to "graze" throughout the day.
