when how and what to worm and dust with

I have 10 girls who i have had over a year now and i feel the need to worm and dust them but i know almost nothing about it, i know some natural or herbal remedies but i dont know how to use them and if that will really work. i need some guidence here so if everyone could tell me what they use, when and how they use it and so on that would be very helpfull, i need alot of help here because i have never done this before so please help!!

I posted this on another request earlier but it is answering your question:

Go a get some Food grade diatomaceous earth and dust your chickens and your pets with it. It will take a couple of times but its organic and non toxic. I use this once a month in the coop as well, dusting down the floor and the laying boxes. This can be used in the food mix also as a parasite killer for the internal bugaboos. The food grade will not harm an any way you or your chickens/animals. It is deadly to the parasites and bugs. Once ingested by the bugs it acts like a piece of glass and cuts them up internally.

Solubenol can be mixed with the water for worms and you can also get some Tetracycline and follow the directions on how many grams per gallon. This has to be done for several days. I do these at the same time and add lemon juices to the water. Also make sure it is there only source for water so you know they are getting the medications.

wow! thanks that was very very helpful i had heard about that stuff before but i did not know that it killed any creepy crawlys like that, i just thought it was stuff to keep bugs away not actualy kill them. sorry about the whole repeating yourself thing i didnt know. thanks again that was very helpful!

DE is not a wormer and solubenol from what I've read is only available in the UK. I do NOT recommend giving antibiotics such as tetracycline just for the heck of it! There is no need for it.
Use sevin dust ($4.97 at Lowes) to dust your chickens and dust the inside of their coop as well. Redust chickens and coop again in 10 days to kill lice/mite nits hatched since the initial dusting to end their lifecycle. Here's a link: http://ohioline.osu.edu/vme-fact/0018.html
As far as worming goes, I recommend using valbazen (albendazole) liquid cattle/sheep wormer. It kills all known worms chickens get including tapeworms. Administer it orally with a syringe (without needle.) Dosage is 1/2cc for standard size chickens and 1/4cc for smaller chickens. Redose again in 10 days to kill larva hatched since the initial dosing. There is a total of 24 days withdrawal from start to finish. If your feedstore doesnt carry valbazen, you can order it from Jefferslivestock.com or call them. It comes in a 500ml bottle and has a 3 year expiration, it'll last you a long time. Flubenvet is another UK product that can supposedly be bought here in this country. Why anyone here would want to use it is beyond me. It requires mixing the flubenvet in a certain amount of feed weightwise for the chickens for 7 days...what a headache.
ETA: You can always take a fecal sample to a vet and have it checked for worm oocysts and cocci oocysts. My vet charges $14.50.

The vet that I have discussed this issue with and in speaking with one of the breeders on this suggest worming and antibiotics at the same time. If you feel this is not nessescary then don't do it but like I said this suggestion came from a vet and a breeder.

On Solubenol I think you might be right on that. I got mine from the vet. It might not be available over the counter. Wazine would be another good choice.

There are no scientific studies showing that DE kills worms. There are plenty of BYC'ers that have used it as such only to find out they had to use "real" wormers to get rid of worms. There are many sales sites that will tell that DE is a wormer when in fact it isnt. Wazine only gets rid of large roundworms. There are many other types of worms that chickens get, as in the link I provided above...valbazen kills them all.
You've no doubt heard of certain antibiotics that arnt effective in humans anymore because of bacterial resistance....same with chickens. When you really need to use an antibiotic on a chicken, it might not work due to bacterial resistance....then you gotta use a stronger antibiotic which causes more stress on the chicken, not to mention possibly a longer withdrawal time.

Again, DE is not a wormer, there is no scientific proof whatsoever. Those sights you linked to are selling it. The last link is a vet assistant..a student. She has alot to learn, sorry.
