You might look inside the beak of Michonne for any yellow patches of gunk that should not be there. I don't know if it is related to the hole under the beak, but wet pox lesions can cause airway and feeding problems if present. Look at any others with severe pox. For lice you need to repeat the dusting in 10 days, for mites, 7 days. Lice are fast moving, mites slow. And can i say-looking through images....it infuriates me to see chickens with GOBS of lice eggs clustered at the ends of feathers? Just CAKED all over them? I saw ONE chicken with ONE blemish and imnediately realized it was pox. It took ONE bug crawling for me to say, "oh hell no."

How on earth could someone let it get so bad?

I agree! As soon as I notice just one little thing not right with my chickens (not acting normal, not interested in mealworms, strange dropping, not laying, etc), I find the problem and treat them.
