When setting eggs under a broody...

Ha, when it comes to dux, pay no attention to @duluthralphie ! He professes to believe the world would be a better place if there were no "dux" in it. I think his mother was frightened by one before he was born. The truth may be even stranger. I suspect our Ralphie secretly LOVES dux and can't get enough of them, and his public loathing of them is a big, fat, sham. Mail him 20 or 30 ducklings. :lau

I agree. :lau

Have to say I am siding with Ralphie No dux here never will be :wee
I won't have ducks either, but it is not bc I don't like them. I think they are beautiful, magnificent, adorable creatures. But I can't meet their needs. So will stick with chickens. I love horses too, but am no longer able to care for them, either, sadly. So chickens it is! 😆

Agree I am 60 osteo arthritis and so on can keep up with the coops
not anything else anymore .. We bought a place 6 years ago 3/4 of an acre but a 4 car garage plus a tool room and wood shop .. Better half was a sea bee in Vietnam
he can build and does mostly for me ..
I can think I would love a horse again but know I am not 8 or 12 anymore
it would not be good for them.

Yup, Penny, gotta recognize our limitations, don't we? I'm so glad for chickens. Here's a few of the BA chix I got in Feb., they are starting to lay now. I have 10 pullets. There is a BJG cockerel in there too. I think they are so purty!

Yuppers got three coops here but have fun silkie are my guilty pleasure
they have their private coop and tractor to be outside in ..

So far the only extra I have to do with ducks is keep up with their water needs. I could cut back to swim time only once a week, but I would feel terrible because they love that water so. I do have to get my barn and chicken/duck spigots back on well water though! Last month’s water bill nearly tripled. Not good when we’re trying to find ways to cut back. :fl
