When should I put a safety hole in a call duck egg?

Well I can't seem to locate a good example of unabsorbed yolk.
But here's one of some waste in the bottom of an egg.
Now sometimes that waste can have yellow in it too making you wonder if that's yolk down in there or waste.

IT WAS DEBRIS! I am so so so happy that the duckling is ok! The white duckling seems to be doing amazing and is out of the egg now, no yolk and it was just debris that looked like yolk. Everything looks fine so far and the duckling seems great. I will probably give it sugar water for a few hours like every 30 minutes, I heard that tip on a guide, but if you guys think that isn't the best idea let me know because I don't really have any experience giving sugar water. The other ducklings seem fine although they are still chewing, pastel seems to be chewing less now though and I will probably proceed with opening up the membrane in a little while! I cannot explain how relieved I am about the white duckling.

We'll see what Shaw says, but I just leave mine to fluff up in the brooder. I've never given sugar water. Just room temp fresh water. Once they're up and moving around I give them their water and dunk their bill so they know it's there. After that they are good to go.

Absolutely! Lol I am so excited that the first one hatched.

so you do give them water though? I didn't know that, but ive only hatched one batch chicks before and never had to interfere.

I don't give them water until they're up and moving around.

Make sure they can't get in their water with their body. It also needs to be deep enough for them to dunk their whole bill in.

Congrats on your new baby!

This year was my first time hatching call ducks too, and having read so much about how hard it is for their short little beaks, I worried and added safety holes as soon as the internal pip showed too.

yeah but in the incubator? before they are dry or just when they are up and moving? Also do you put the water in there and let them find it, or do you pick them up then dunk their bill in it?
