When should I put a safety hole in a call duck egg?

What do you have in the bottom of your brooder.
Sometimes it takes a day for their feet to kind of uncurl and for them to get up on them.
I usually don't put any shavings in my brood or the first day or two. Just a puppy pad or an old towel.
It helps them get up on their feet if they have a flat surface to walk on that's not slippery.
I put shavings, but I could switch it to a puppy pad because I have quite a few of those around, like 5 months ago I got a shiba inu puppy. I don't mind doing the work if its gonna help them with their feet a decent amount.

@Overo Mare Just wanted to say by the way, the ambilocal cord is still attached, idk if thats what you call it in ducklings on 2 of the ducklings in the incubator. They seem really attached and they keep following eachother around, and they drag their shell around with them. I don't see any yolk in the shell or anything and they keep getting in the way of eachother, where the other duckling is sitting on the cord and the other one is trying to walk and they tug on it pretty hard, I am a little afraid of it breaking if its something that could happen, I know both of you are probably asleep but still, I thought id ask

Also, for pictures I will take some when they all go to the brooder as its kinda difficult right now to take pictures because in the incubator its difficult to get a good enough angle and in the brooder I don't have enough hands to do all the things to see the ducklings, so tommorow I will take some pictures because I might take them out for a little while, just for a moment to check on them

Also its pretty cute, the 2 ducklings in the incubator I think are gonna be bonded to eachother, they sit next to eachother and clean eachother or whatever the biting their feathers in a way a dog/cat might clean itself. I just hope they will be alright with their ambilocal cords

After looking at another thread, im going to apply moisture to it, and if it doesnt come off in the morning im going to cut it, but im not sure about doing that so if you guys could let me know if thats a bad idea, it just looks like this really really thin white gooey string that attaches to the egg

@Cheems
I just read this whole thread and I am impressed that this was your first attempt at assisting hatching. And you were 4 out of 4 generally not many people do well and it takes awhile for people to catch on. Way to go

As for @Overo Mare and @shawluvsbirds I was impressed with how well you guys explained I didnt question one thing I am glad I took time to read this thread 🥰

I definetely couldn't have had all 4 out of 4 hatch if they hadn't helped me, and I really appreciate it!

Also, as for an update for anyone interested, I decided to cut the cord because it was getting tangled in everything, and it turned out fine, no blood or anything like that. The ducklings are doing good except im a little concerned about the brooder having shavings for the floor, but the white and pastels feet look like they have completely unfolded and they are walking around fine. The 2 others in the incubator still could go to the brooder, its just that one hasn't uncurled its foot yet properly, and I think they keep eachother company and they like to sit next to eachother, so I will put them in there in the morning when the foot is ok since I dont think it will do too good in the brooder! :)

Hoping he last two are ready for the brooder soon!

Glad to hear the other two are up and active. 🥰

Yep.. if it's just that little piece attached to the egg Gunk it's fine to snip off right away.
Now... Get that camera working. 😜

I will get more pictures soon! But for this morning here are the pictures, you can see white and pastel behind white in the picture underneath the heater, then all 4 there in the other picture!

The nutmeg still has its foot kinda curled a little bit, but it isn't curled when he/she is standing so I decided to put them in the brooder, but I will probably put a puppy pad down if I see that foot still is curled when I hold nutmeg
