When should I put a safety hole in a call duck egg?

The two most important things when hatching Calls are PATIENCE and keep the membranes moist. Do not move too fast by removing too much shell or membrane.

by the way, just wanted to absolutely make sure, by snares you mean its nostrils right? I dont know if youd call it a nostril on the duckling, but still. I just want to take no risks with getting info confused
Nares are what the nostrils are called, yes.

ok thanks, I have vaseline so I will use that to keep it moist, would you apply vaseline every 4 hours, then inbetween then put some water sometimes, or do you mean you alternate between vaseline and water. I know the main goal it to keep it moist, and as long as its doing that its ok I assume, but I just wanted to make sure before I add either too much water or too much vaseline :) I believe this is my last question unless theres anything else for right now btw!

If you have to assist you will be able to tell when it starts to dry out and need moisted again. It will look like paper when you first open it when you get it wet with that Vaseline it will turn kind of clear.

I actually don't think I would recommend you even trying to use any water since you are new at this. I had a disaster once where I dripped a drop off the cotton swab and it went right on the ducklings nostril and I'm pretty sure I drowned the poor thing.
