When should I stop feeding my pullets/hens MEDICATED Start-N-Grow?

Feed them Flock Raiser, if you wish, but don't start the Layena yet. They are far too young for it's high calcium content. Unless you expect a new batch of chicks soon, saving feed for "later" can often mean it goes stale. If it is only a few pounds, just finish it off. Anyhow, best wishes on your flock. Have fun.

Fred's Hens :

The "medication" in starter is neither an antibiotic nor de-wormer.

It is a blocker. It prevents the cocci from overwhelming their developing immune systems. Cocci is such a dreaded disease that blocking it is preferred by many folks. Still, the chicks need exposure to the dirt to kick their own immune systems into high gear. Since you've come this far, you might keep feeding it until your pullets have had a few weeks on the dirt where the cocci might be. After that? They are normally good to go.

Actually, you have to read the label to know if your starter contains an antibiotic. Amprolium is often used by itself and it's certainly the most popular coccidiostat in commercial feeds. Our local mill, though, uses Amprolium and Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate. They don't advertise that their starter is medicated plus antibiotic, only that it's "medicated". It's up to the buyer to read the label sewed into the seam (which I believe is blue if the product contains BMD).

Are you kidding? After all that waiting, I cooked the first egg before it had even cooled off! (but after taking several photos of it in different poses...)

I stand corrected. Your information was much more detailed and was excellent. I wrongly locked in on "Start N Grow" from the title. A Purina Name. I failed to mention the kind of feed you spoke of, which while considerably less available to most BYCers, is out there.

so did I read correctly, they are 9 weeks old now?
If they are, they still need starter/grower till they reach POL....if you start Layer feed now, their bones will not form correctly etc....

*did I understand, or are they older?
