When should I switch my chicks to layer feed?

We have 25 pounds of starter feed left and my chicks are almost 7 weeks old,So they need to go outside. We have 40 pounds of layer feed left for the big girls. We only have 2 big girls left so it will be awhile before it's all gone but the little chickies need to go outside!

As Sutremaine points out, chick starter and grower feed is practically the same. I've even bought my adult flock a 50 lb bag of chick starter when the feed strore was all out of Flock Raiser grower feed.

So, the solution to your problems is to feed the entire flock that last bag of chick starter, and that way the chicks can go right outside where you are yearning to move them.

Alright, but the problem is I still have 40 pounds of layer feed left. How long will it stay good? For like 10 more weeks?

Can you refrigerate or freeze it? Either should be fine. If you can store it in cool dry conditions it will lose some nutrient value in ten weeks but not enough that I'd toss it. But you really want to avoid mold.
