When Should You HELP a HATCH? Day33?

OMG....This is sooooo NOT over. There is still sooo much, (I guess it's the 2nd layer of membrane) that just won't come off very easily. This is actually making me sick. When your really not sure just exactly what to peel off. I am trying to be so careful so I won't make it bleed I keep talking and comforting this poor baby while wiping with warm water to try and get that skin looking crap off. It's like totally stuck to the baby. after peeling about all I can without making it bleed, I went ahead & put warm wet rag with baby back into the bator. ~ I also got a lot of the actual hard shell off only left the very bottom of the egg with the hard shell on. The poor baby was making little sounds. Poor thing has got to be so stressed. The entire top of the baby is exposed, the wing looks like it wants to come out of the egg. ~ AT THE TOP of the egg by the head, it looks weird, like raw flesh.(making me gross out) ~ I HAVE A FEELING THERE IS YOLK INSIDE STILL. But not sure, it looks like its not ready to be born.OR IS THIS BECAUSE THE MEMBRANE IS KIND OF STUCK?

With most of the hard shell off will the baby be able to get the skin/membrane stuff off? Is this what is called shrink wrap? will it come off? DOES IT GET HARDER TO TAKE OFF AS MORE TIME GOES BY? ~ WHAT SHOULD HUMIDITY BE AT NOW? It is close to 80 now. ~ DOES THE BABY NEED ANYTHING SPECIAL AFTER THIS HORRIBLE HATCH? (for stress or strength) Should I leave baby in bator to get free by itself or should I keep helping?

Im sure glad to have missed so much of the suspense from earlier in the thread - reading for the first time- my heart rate didnt alter- but If I had been reading as things happened- I would have been a nervous wreck for you Juile.

One thing I have learnt about helping- is to leave the inner membrane alone. Peel shell- and even the tougher outer membrane- but when it comes to the part that contains the vein network- its best to leave that intact and let the duckling push its way out of that when the time is right. Tearing that membrane can cause a bleed that can greatly weaken the baby. Looks like you have done so well helping this little one- I hope by morning he is out and fluffing up nicely for you. It looks like such a little cutie with that colouring.

I think it may be best to leave it- the struggle to get out of the egg is important to help them gain strength. Have some vitamins in the water for when you take it from the incubator. Dip its head in every hour or so until it is strong enough to walk around to get to food and water for itself.

Alicia, the baby is part still in shell & i think there is yolk still in there baby is moving around raises its head makes noises eyes are open & seems very alert. i was gonna take picture but the battery is out of camera & being charged(moms camera shes charging it and shes sleeping now) i will take picture in morning Thank you so much for visiting my post i'm really needing some help now. uggggg.. TYVM, ~Julie

There will be plenty of time to take photos once the baby is out of the bator- Letting it rest now is important while it absorbs the yolk. Talk to it though - peep at it and it will talk back. It will encourage the baby to move- and in turn- when you see the baby move- you will gain confidence that it is strong enough to survive.

so i can leave it alone now? i dont need to remove more membrane? it looks like membrane is stuck to baby. it doesn't look real dry the membrane is NOT White looking when baby moves you can see yolk or whatevers in there looks liquidy in there kinda

Let the baby rest a while- and absorb the yolk. Once that is nearly done it will start being much more active. Remember- if it were left to hatching normally- the time when the start to unzip is when the y
yolk is almost done absorbing- and all the blood from the veins taken up as well.

when you say vitamins do you mean the niacin? i still haven't found any niacin. i bought some,2 bottles of it & its the wrong niacin. i looked at walmart & CVS Pharmacy they both had the same kind of niacin but its the wrong kind

I havent ever used niacin. I have some powdered multi vitamins I keep on hand for my ducks. The one I use I get form the feed store- and its a powder for poultry pigs and pigeons- but you can buy a liquid for caged birds like budgies that is just as good in this kind of situation. That kind is one you are more likely to be able to find at a normal pet shop. I put a sprinkle of the powder in some water for ducklings that are slower to hatch just for a boost. Multivitamins are more useful than just niacin alone in my opinion.
