Your gyno will take a blood test to have your levels checked for thyroid problems. where i get my hair done there is a standing joke, when women are complaining about something going on with their bodies, first response is go get your thyroid checked. you would be amazed at what problems have been fixed due to thyroid issues.

at first was going to say as you get older you tend to keep more belly fat, but you are only 21, you have a long time before the belly fat is due to age.

do as the other poster said, check your calories, make sure your body is getting enough food and have your thyroid checked.

good luck. If i had the answer to weight issues, i would buy all BYC members a special something, cause i would be richer than rich.

21 is not exactly older enough to slow metabolism down which is what I think you are referring to.
Weight gain/ loss is a mathematical formula of calories in and calories burned. The average person needs 2500 calories or less to just get up, walk, breathe, blink, etc. If you eat 3500 calories above that in a week you gain a pound. If you eat 3500 calories less than that in a week or exercise to burn 3500 calories, you lose a pound. Starvation diets do not work. You need a lifestyle change that you can live with. To combine diet and exercise to get to your ideal weight is the best formula, and then you can maintain. Please be sure that your ideal weight is realistic. Weighing yourself every day is frustrating and demeaning. You will know if you are losing weight by the way your clothes feel on you. Crunches and leg lifts are not calorie burners. You need regular aerobic exercise where your heart rate is high enough to keep you from being able to talk through your workout. There are many workout tapes that are affordable if you cannot walk or run safely where you live. A regular routine takes 6 weeks to form into a habit that you cannot break.
Many women struggle with body image and weight in particular. If it were easy we would all be thin.
Keep a food journal and look up your calorie intake on the internet. There are calorie tracking sites that give you the amount of each food, and how much each half hour of exercise burns. Find a partner to help motivate you on the days you just don't feel like working out.
I am sympathetic and compassionate to your post. I hope you find what you are looking for here.

The answer... Keep the blood sugar level. When the insulin pump doesn't kick on, the body burns fat. Plain and simple.

You should eat 6 meals a day, small meals not big ones, consisting of lean protein and low glycemic foods. Google low glycemic and you will get a plethera of lists and charts. Basically green: spinach, asparagas, cucumber, celery, beans, romaine, green peppers, brocolli... the green stuff.
A serving of cheese should be the size of 2 AA batteries, meat should be the palm of your hand, a little more for lean turkey breast or white fish, a little less for beef or red fish. You can eat fruits, eventually, I'm not saying to cut everything else out of your diet, but if you eat lean and green for a couple weeks, you will drop a couple pounds IF you get enough calories to support your body's needs.

I have lost over 100 lbs, and I am a certified health coach so I have some experience with what I'm talking about. I also completed a triathlon last year and I'm training to re-run it next month. I still have a few lbs to lose but I have trouble balancing my calories in with my calories out during training. I have a level that works with my body (and everyone is different) but when I add exercise I have to add calories in order to continue losing weight. It's not an even match, calorie for calorie, so it takes some playing around to get it right.

Look at your day and see what you are really burning in calories. Try increasing your calorie intake with good, healthy foods, and see if that shakes anything loose.

I just dont know how I can fit cardio into my day. I mean I dont do anything but yard work but I cant find 2 hrs to leave kids behind (or the $$ for the membership..) and do the gym things 3+ days a week.
I would like a bike but heck that falls into someone coming along and snatching me into their van.. (Im a little scared on these empty country roads next to the highway where no one would hear me scream

I added up my calories on a big day of eating and it came out to be a little under 1200.
My daily activties are sitting on the computer, light house work, maybe a little gardening, cooking, and chasing kids around. I always feel tired too...


Im wondering if its not my thyroid..
 
i am where you are, only i don't have kids. my weight gain is from the shot and the horrible break-up i had last summer. it put me in total depression mode. all i would do is lay in bed, eat cheese balls and drink dr. pepper.

if you have stairs, run up and down them a few times when the babies are down for naps. and lately i've been doing leg ups. i feel them when i put my butt at the edge of my bed, lean on my arms and lift my legs up and down very slowly. i do a set of 25, wait 25 seconds then keep doing them till i don't feel like it anymore. i did 150 today. try to drink water. celery has no calories lol. or so i've been told lol. i have been watching what i eat too and it sucks sooo much.

if you don't have stairs you can run in place for 30 mins to get your cardio going to
