Most of my chicks are 7 weeks. Currently eating non medicated chick feed. When do i switch them to a different food and what is the next recommended type of feed? Or do they stay on starter until they are close to laying eggs?
Starting at 10 weeks you can replace the chick starter with grower feed, and then at about 20 weeks you can start giving them layer feed. But if you have roosters I would recommend giving them all flock raiser as the layer feed can harm the roosters since it's higher in calcium.
You can switch to grower/all flock now or soon-ish, if you want. Or continue to keep using the starter feed. Once they start laying you can switch to layer if you want, or continue with grower/all flock with calcium on the side.
I don't do things by number, I do things by "when I run out" so if you still have plenty of starter left (but want to switch to grower or all flock), continue using it until you run out.
