It's too close to the wall, best if it's 12"(30.5cm) away form wall...
...and should be at least 2"(5cm) in diameter

If I was transporting chickens from one location to another, I would be reluctant to put 3 chickens in a box with so little ventilation.
14X14 cm. is 196 sq. cm.
1 sq ft. is 929 sq. cm.
So in short, the opening you are talking about is about 1/5th the opening needed for one bird. For 3 birds, you would need 14 or 15 of those openings. Why make those tiny openings when you need a couple huge openings?

I don't know what part of Australia you live in but I know much of it gets very hot in summer.
I also know you don't have near the variety of predators that I have here.

What was your guidance when you decided to house them in a box with no openings?
