When to help a call duck hatch?

Hi everyone I have a call duck that pipped as of yesterday about 2 PM it’s been 24 hours and not much has changed. At what point should I be concerned and decide to help?

Did it internally pip or externally?
They can be so slow. It's very hard to decide when to help. If it has made an external pip then it surely can breathe so that gives you a little more time before you need to worry.

Was that internal or external pip? Calls can have some trouble hatching if they're from good lines, due to the short necks and beaks. If you meant internal pip was 24 hours ago, I'd probably do a safety hole.

External, might just need more time. That's a call for you to make. Here's an article on assisted hatching, if and when you assist:

Personally when I hatch Calls, if I haven't seen action by 24 hours after external pip/safety hole, I take the shell over the air cell off.

Can you post a pic of the egg showing the pip?

Can you still detect life? Movement?

Gently drill a breathing hole if only internal pip, low oxygen in the egg makes them tire out faster. Birds stuck at internal pip often are able to perk up and hatch themselves once they have air flow. External pip can take a long time, so as long as the baby can breath and the egg shell is nice and moist/soft, you're fine. Call ducks can have trouble with the external pip due to their stubby beaks and shorter necks.
