When to help? When to worry?

Wow very dirty egg but nothing you can do about that now. Ok where his crack is very gently peal away a tiny bit of shell, we wont to get him a hole before he runs out of air and to release some moisture that may be in there. So you may have to puncture threw the FIRST membrane, again remember there's two membranes don't touch his..

I lifted a little bit of loose shell. There is a teeny tiny hole under it that was hidden from view. About the size of the space in the letter "e".

I'm kind of feeling inclined to let him do his thing. I'm just really scared of messing too much like I did the last ones. He's my last baby. :( I'm scared looking at him the wrong way will kill him.
DON"T BE SCARED, think of it this way, he's two days past his due date, he's either going to suffocate because he will run out of air, or he will drown because of all the moisture in the shell, We are NOT going to get him out, alls we want to do is make him a hole so he can breath easier and get himself out, you only need to make a tiny hole for him to breath better. he needs to fill up those lungs with air not water..

I read not to wash eggs.
Your right you do NOT wash the eggs, however, you can take a paper towel that is dry and clean off the dirt you may not get all of it but most of it. What happens is that dirt is covering the pores, so there's no oxygen getting into that shell for him.. The dirt looks kind of wet and not dried and hard, that tells me LOTS OF MOISTURE.. YEK..

OK at this point there is NOTHING else to do, now for the crossing the fingers, we need to give him 24 hours to make some progress, Keep that temp at 101 and keep the humidity down to 50 or even 55 will be OK. if he's making a lot of noise that tells me he's got some relief and can do this on his own. he's a strong little duck, he will need a stuffed animal or something to cuddle with because ducks do not like to be alone.

So how's the second on coming? Did you get that safe hole made and did it smell inside?

It's actually pretty dry to the touch. I honestly have hope that this little guy will do ok. I can hear him tapping and his taps are way stronger than either of the other two ever were. I think he's taking his time, something I probably should have given more of to the other two. *fingers crossed*

I haven't done anything with the second one. Mostly worrying about getting the temp up. It dipped a bit getting the humidity down.
