When will my girls start laying?

Hi, I'm new to chicken keeping and have just got 3 lohmann browns, they are 22 wks old, I've had them 3 weeks and no sign of eggs,they are fed on laying pellets and kitchen scraps plus the odd treat of dried meal worms. When can I expect them to lay?

I'm not familiar with that breed - some start laying early, some late. If your hens squat when you touch their back, are getting redder in face and comb, they are approaching point of lay. You could help them focus by putting a golf ball or two in the nesting box- to show them where eggs belong.

Do they free range, or are they kept in a run outside? I ask because free ranging chickens are likely to hide a nest somewhere - they are laying - you just aren't seeing the results. Likely they just need more time to feel secure in their new surroundings. I am guessing they will start laying very soon.

Thanks for quick reply, they are kept in a run outside. They do squat and yes the combs on 2 are becoming redder, I've put a golf ball in the nest box but they keep kicking it out lol. All they seem to do is poop in there

Glad you joined us! I had some Lohmann browns a few years ago and remember they started laying at around 22-24 weeks. You should start getting some eggs soon.

I am not familiar with this breed myself, so I can't be of much help. But when they do start to squat for you when you lean over them, that will mean the eggs will be coming down the pipe soon! You can start with the layer feed at that point.

Thanks for your answers, I was begining to think I had bought empty hens lol. I'm loving this site as its helped answer quite a few things for me as a begginer. I'm also loving keeping chickens, they have kept us amused for hours, bring on the eggs

Cornish Rocks. Their due date for slaughtering is 8 weeks because tegu get so big.
