I put some chicks under one of my broodies today. She took right to them clucking away and tucking them under her. I could not get her moved from her nest no matter what methods i tried. she is in a nestbox about 12-16 inches off the ground. I am making a little ramp for them but how soon do they take them off the nest?

When I prepared the nest boxes for chicks coming in to put under my broodies, I made sure they were stuffed to the rim. Mine sit on the floor and are large cat litter boxes thast are covered. I also put in extra coop bedding in the form of straw to make it easier for the little chicks. Pics on my blog of new mom with chicks. All went well and mom stayed in a day before coming out. I put my chicks out with them after they were a week old. that way I knew they were eating right. Now moms have them out free ranging all over are place near the coop.
