I have had 2 of my hens go broody this Summer and I got them some fertile eggs from the local feed store so they both have chicks now. My question is when will the hens start laying again? One of the hens chicks are now 8 weeks old so when should I expect her to start laying again?

When I had an OEGB hatch out some chicks, she started laying again about 6-7 weeks later. BUT that was in the spring. At this time of year, she might take longer to start back up.

By the time our chicks were 8 weeks old, they were off by themselves and mama rejoined the flock. Laying began again shortly after, but after only a month or so of laying, she went into a molt. Then we didn't see eggs for 4 months!
However, if she will hatch a clutch a year for us, i won't complain too much. I just hope she will do it in spring, not summer.

Its Summer here now and it has been really hot and humid and I think that maybe she is molting (mother hen) because I'm seeing more of her feathers in the backyard.

Ohhh silkies--I was under the impression that silkies didn't lay much--just enough to go broody and raise another batch!
