Hi! I'm new at this chicken thing....my hens are about 5months, will I know when they molt? I didn't know they didn't do that until 18 monthes. Does that affect laying?
They go through several molts while they are growing but their first adult molt usually comes around 18 months.
HOT - my girls frequently eat the feathers lost during their molts. They are simply recycling protein and it's not the same as feather picking at all. I've never had a feather picker.
