I have buff orpingtons and white-faced-black-Spanish pullets that were born in the beginning of May; now it is mid-October and so far I have not seen one egg from either one of them. The daylight is getting shorter and I do not have I light in their coop. When do you think that they will begin to lay?

I too want to know the answer to this question. I have a barred rock, to Buff Orpingtons and an Easter Egger. They were also hatched. On May 9th. Just wish they would hurry up

My chicks hatched April 8th and a few began to lay in early September. Now, at what, early-mid October, nine out of ten are laying. May babies probably lay late October early November. Or they may wait until spring, since November is so late in the year. I couldn't tell anyone when welsummers start laying. Mine isn't.
