When your city friends just don't get farm life. :(

Not a question just a small rant. Im sure some of you have had these issues once or twice. I hate how my friends who live in the city just don't understand how having live stock works. Now to be fair I keep chickens and ducks more as pets than as live stock but the work is still the same. I don't have nearly as many birds to feed as a farm would but they still need fed, their coop cleaned, their pond water managed, fish stocked, and other general needs met. Some friends want me to go out to the bar or something for a "girls night out" but I just don't have the time. I work a full time day job as a mechanic then it is home to tend my 5 chickens, 4 rabbits, 3 cats, 2 ducks, 1 dog, and 1 snake. After all that there is just no time for going out. But people say things like, "can't you just feed them extra the day before so you don't have to feed them the day we want to hang out??" Umm. NO! That is just messed up. Or, "don't they just eat grass? Just let them stay out longer." Oh dear lord, no they don't just eat grass. Some people. :he

Just hit 'em back with "why don't you feed your kids a little more and go on a weekend bender with me?"

In all seriousness that does sound frustrating. Pre-Covid I had a job that sometimes demanded that I work 12-14 hour days, and on top of that I still had my normal day-to-day duties and pets to care for once I got home. I -wanted- time to chill and catch up, but real life often doesn't account for it.

You SHOULD try to squeak in some relaxation time though. Maybe invite the gals over to your place for a nice picnic or mixology party?

When we moved out to the boonies, I was surprised (and a bit hurt) when friends never wanted to come out to my house. It was "too far" and "my car will get dirty from the dirt roads." Hmmm.... just as far for me to drive to the city too...

Maybe invite the gals over to your place for a nice picnic or mixology party?

When inviting them over didn't work, I found friends who "get it."

I do invite them over. But the never come. They want to go out to a bar. I just can not fit a bar night into my schedule. Lol
