where are the wonderful st. louis area chicken people ????

You can place an order with Fenton Feed. I'm not sure how long it would take to get them in or if you could wait that long.

I don't think I want to wait to place an order. I'll definatly be calling Orscheln tomorrow. I've never bought chicks at a store before, you think they may not have chicks tomorrow then?

Well, they receive shipments fairly regularly, but if you want day-olds, you try to schedule your visit right after they receive a delivery from the hatchery. The ones they have right now are about 8 days old, so they are probably out of the fun varieties. They get snapped up quickly. But they said to call today (thursday) to find out when the next shipment would come in... likely in the next few days, if not tomorrow!

Oh, and FENTON FEED STINKS, IMO. We got our first chicks there, and they were really rude to me, clearly thought I was a stupid city slicker. They have a 6-chick minimum, so if you're planning to get fewer, they'll give you hell. AND, of our sexed "pullets", 50% turned out to be roos. I actually think the kid working there was intentionally thumbing his nose at me, and knew it.

Thanks I didn't know that. I had only talked to them on the phone.

Where do you buy your feed?

Didn't mean to sound so negative, I just had a pretty unpleasant experience there.
I get my feed at the OK hatchery garden store in Kirkwood. Sometimes at Jerseyville, as my business takes me there occasionally. I have to go to Jerseyville for hay, too, unless you know of a closer place... ?
