if i were you i would start with bobs, a lot less maitnence, but if you have your heart set on cali's i know a breeder out of washington that just hatched a few hundred so if you cant find any one closer pm me and i will get you thier contact info

A word of advice; speaking from my experiences, starting off with bobwhite quails wouldn't really be a good idea since they're very vocal and territorial. If noise is a concern for you, don't get bobwhites. These quails are also notably larger than most species of quail and despite what many sources will tell you, raising California quails is no different than raising bobwhites (or maybe even better!). We have blue-scaled quails and I say they're a better choice than bobwhites. They're not as big, vocal, or aggressive as bobwhites. So if your gut tells you to get California quails, go ahead! Again, this is my experience!

I started out with California quail and did fine. The only problem I had back then was aggression between my birds, but if you give them a big enough cage that won't be an issue . If you are set on California quail, I think you should go for it.
