Where can I buy food grade Diatomaceous Earth In Indianapolis, IN? I am trying to prevent being charged for shipping and want to help out local distrubutors if possible. If there is a low shipping online source I would concider if I can not find something local. I want to try it out because I here so much about the stuff.

Hi, I am up near Kokomo. I do not know why, but our local Meijer carried it during the summer. I would not have even know what it was except for reading these boards.

This is Custom Milling. They have one rep in Illinois, but not IN. You can get it from them (Perma Guard brand of food grade DE) through the mail or call and ask them about a dealer in your state.
I just got 2 50# bags of Perma Guard for $24 each at my local guy in Murphy, NC.

I cant imagine Meijer having food grade DE. (used to live near one in Ohio) Always look at the label. If it's 85% or so silicon, it's not food grade, but, rather pool filter grade. Look for 1% silicon. ]

It was near the sporting goods. And I do not know what kind it was. I know nothing about it except just recognized the name and remembered reading about it here. If it is used for pools I can see why it was in sporting goods and probably not what you are looking for.

I doubt you will ever see anything that says "silicon" content. What you need to look for is "crystalline silica" content. Pool filter DE has 60-75% and Food Grade has to have less than 3% to be food grade. That's what you need to look for!

I ordered mine through custom milling also so I could be sure I was getting the correct stuff. The stores around here all looked at me like I was crazy and said that the pool grade was the "only" kind of DE made and that was what I was looking for. I went back to that store with my 50 lbs of "FOOD GRADE" DE and showed the guy. He says "OH, I would have never thought they had that" Well, now he knows to NOT tell his customers that the kind there was NOT the correct DE. He said one women did buy it for her chickens
