I have some young roosters that I don't want them to become part of the dinner table. Is there a place in the bay area where they will take the roosters and give them a good life? Thanks!
Good luck to you.
The reality is that about 50% of all chickens that hatch are males.
If someone is breeding chickens, they only need one male to 10 hens..
No one wants to feed unneeded males for 10 years.
With nearly 20 billion chickens in the world, at least 9 BILLION roosters are making their way to someone's dinner plate. Whether that be as cockerel chicks for zoo food or as adults on the table of the person that fed and cared for them.
It is very unpleasant. Butchering chickens is the worst part of my chicken raising experience. But since I've decided to raise chickens, it is something I have to do.
Too many roosters is a problem for the hens and for the roosters fighting with each other. I just butchered 7 cockerels and I have another 10 that have to go.
