My guess is someone dumped them. They dont go that far. Mine has never left their property which is 2.5 acres. As far as catching them, as was suggested, when they go to roost at night they are "very" heavy sleepers. If you can, without a flash light just climb up behind them and pick them up off the roost. Hold them around the middle with wings immobilized. I feel like your doing the right thing and if you do end up on u-tube well, that would be a bonus as I love a good video. LOL
