Where did they come from???

I sent my flock into total spaz out this morning when I tried to murder a pumpkin in their run. First I carried it in (huge thing) and tossed it on the ground, expecting it to split open. It was soft. Nope, it bounced. The whole flock went crazy, beating themselves up on the fencing run, and scurrying for the pop door. So, I thought it needed a harder landing b/c I dropped it in the DL. So, I dropped it on a 2 x 4 that was about 15" high that they use for a roost. Nope it bounced off the 2 x 4 and sent the 2 x 4 into a jiggling fit. More chickens flying. This time, a few bounced off the 6' high welded wire ceiling of that section of the run. Finally, I grabbed a fiberglass post (closest weapon handy) and tried to eviscerate it with that. That wasn't gonna happen. Next weapon was a show shovel. The pumpkin finally complied. All this work, b/c I was too lazy to go grab a spade! Yeah, chickens are chicken.

Yep The ones in the pictures you posted just had a bath and blow dry right before the pictures were taken lol

Uhhhh...blow dried???? That must go over like a fart im church...

I don't even blow dry and primp my own dang locks. Hair tie and a ballcap...good to go...

Me too but silkies have really wiggled their way in to my heart. They're such sweet little things, friendly and cuddly

They actualy really seem to like it. A nice warm bath and warm blow dry. Once they realize the dryer isn't going to attack them, they tend to relax and enjoy it. We've had a silkie spa day here. It was fun and they looked awesome!

Question... I dumped leaves into the run over the weekend and now it seems the chickens are avoiding the run. I come home at lunchtime and they are either in the coop or under it. Three of them come out to the run to share my lunch but then go right back. Do they hate the leaves?

I'd just show em some tough mommy love and ignore it they will adjust especially when hungry.

You can also add a bit of meal worms or shelled corn to the leaves, once they discover their reward they'll be all in.

mine all around got meal worms new order came in yesterday antibiotic for Moose they dogs have been handing a bacterial infection on the skin little corgie had it when we adopted him poor guy got his resolved now it is my Lab Moose.. keep biopsy punches on hand had to refill that best of all 5 lbs of meal worms

Speaking of mealworms.....I'm looking at setting up a commercial type of operation for them based off of this:

Figure I'll order it because I am too lazy to do any research to build my own, fine tune this thing and then scale it back up as this is a scaled down version of their comercial system. Yes I do realize there are BYC tutorials in the articles section for a 1 & 3 drawer system, but I'm a bit handsie about learning.

I don't know how this discussion exploded to almost eighty pages. I'm skimming backwards and am only on page sixty-nine, darn it.

Anyway, about the leaves, they're huge! We have black oaks here and pine needles. Everything stays kind of compacted together and flat, but your leaves are super fluffy and probably chest deep for a chicken.

Stomp around in there with some heavy boots on your drumsticks. Crunch them down, kick them around, and stomp some more. Those are ginormous, crunchy-loud leaf monsters. I'd be terrified, too.

As for the other monster problem you seem to have, not sure I can help.

I'll try stomping them a bit...never thought of the size and sound being scary. I thought they loved leaves and would go in there and scratch like crazy. Thanks for the tip!
