I'm new to this genetic thing but would like to know how does this frizzle gene work!

Are silkie feathering found in some frizzle chickens considered modified homozygous frizzled phenotype?

The Frizzle gene is an Autosomal dominant mutation(both genders have two copies of it). Semi-Lethal, this means that two copies can hinder growth and life expectancy on cold/temperate weather. In hot countries that is not an issue. Homozygous Frizzle feathers will are brittle and will break easily.

Some DNA Research of the mutation: The Chicken Frizzle Feather Is Due to an α-Keratin (KRT75) Mutation That Causes a Defective Rachis.

Excerpt from the article: "The action of the F gene is localized in the feather follicle and is not a consequence of a metabolic disorder. However, the F gene may also have other pleiotropic effects that cause physiological abnormalities. Frizzle plumage may cause the acceleration of basal metabolism due to the loss of body heat, leading to alterations in organ size (e.g., enlargement of the heart, spleen, gizzard, and alimentary canal as well as lack of hypodermal fat deposits) and numerous physiological anomalies (e.g., higher food intake, oxygen consumption, heart rate, volume of circulating blood as well as delayed sexual maturity or decreased fertility)"
