Where do you order your chicks from?

I have an order from them that will ship on Oct 10. Customer service so far has been awesome. I only live about 100 miles from them and even had the option of picking my new friends up directly. Also the local feed store gets all their chicks from Ideal and the 6 I got there are beautiful and thriving. They even put themselves to bed last night. I don't think I will have any problems with my order and am actually hoping for a couple of extra roos. I ordered a white rock roo, but can easily find room for a couple more. Chicken math, go figure. I have been pretty impressed with Ideal so far and will post updates when my new babies arrive.

Here is a couple pics of our chicks from Ideal:

Our first batch, 30 chicks, 5 poults.

Snuggled under the EcoGlow.

Our second batch, 13 chicks (12 + my replacement chick for the
DOA in the first batch.

Our 3rd batch, 15 chicks, +1 packing peanut (or they accidently
put in an extra LOL).

I order from Sandhill Preservation every year, and am always happy with both the birds and with the owners - it is a small operation and they are very nice people.
That is great, wish I had more hatcherys closer. The 2 small independant guys here near me think I am stupid and everytime I went to get chicks would try to pick them out for me and give me roos. So I would point them out and make them chase down the specific one for me until they got tired and let me go get my own,.. I have so many roos because the first couple times I took their advice and went with the ones they picked out for me.... So no more, just gonna order mine in or hatch my own.

... lol.. 8 roos and 9 pullets in my flock dang the luck...... That is why I figured I would buy from a hatchery were they can sex them. I thought it was an excellent price for my batch and that I could order small without costing my an arm and a leg. Teh hatchery closest to me is cackle and they didnt have small order offers. And the other couple hatcherys that do were all sold out of everything that I wanted except RIR.

After reading a number of positive reviews we ordered from Ideal. Their prices were pretty good as was their selection for this late in the year. We ordered 35 chicks of various breeds, all arrived safely and are healthy and active so far.

I love the EcoGlow! My chicks are naturally on a cycle of night and day, I don't have to worry about overheating the brooder or underheating and I don't have to worry about it falling, frying the chicks or catching anything on fire!

I did have some issues because I thought it was getting too hot, but I sent it back to the company and they tested it and made sure it was working correctly! Wonderful customer service! I can't recommend Brinsea or the EcoGlow enough!

I do want to get the smaller EcoGlow for smaller batches and am planning on getting it next year. I would prefer to start the chicks in the house, but we have taken over the space I used for the 1st two batches and do not have a big enough space for a brooder that would be large enough to hold the EcoGlow 50, however if I had the EcoGlow 20, I could start them in the house for the first week or two and then move them outside with the EG50! Yep, that is my plan for next year :)

I have always ordered from McMurray Hatchery and have never had a problem. I order pullets all the time and have only received two rooster in four orders. They will put in extra pullets never roos. The only draw back is you need to order 25 and the only certain times of the year, mostly in the spring and summer. They have a great selection of breeds as well. I have ordered from a couple of different hatchery and have always had a problem.

Great I will have to look at the prices then, I love the idea. My brooder is my second bath tub that no one uses anymore. Yes the master bath is were the whole family showers cause its bigger ,,, go figure... I use it and or a pool. Not sure which one I will use yet but I better get to work huh?

I am loving the feedback from everybody about Ideal and am getting very anxious.

The reasons I like Ideal is that there is no minimum quantity, just a minimum $25.00 and I think that the shipping and handling fees are reasonable (small box charge, air freight fee, etc), and, of course, their awesome customer service! All the chicks/poults I have gotten from them (62 total now in 3 separate batches) are healthy, no cross beak, splayed legs, etc. I did get a couple days of pasty butt on the banties in the second batch, but I do not think that had anything to do with them coming from Ideal. They are also very friendly chickens, not sure that matters LOL, but to us it does and though their characters differ by breed, I don't have any that are total flakes or freak-outs.
