I completely understand it is a gamble but please explain to me how it is my fault if the PO loses the box. Is it not good business practice to work with a buyer if something like that happens? That's all I'm saying.

Unless I put the wrong address on the package (which I never have) I don't think it's my fault either. Neither buyer or seller has any control over what the PO does.....and they both should know that going in. I've had eggs get lost and show up after a week.....didn't ask the seller to send me more because I knew that risk went along with shipped eggs.

I guess my views on how to do business isn't the same as others and I have no intentions of being like that.

Nothing was ever offered so nothing was ever discussed. Nothing is free, I've seen that in the egg world.

In answer to your original question.....a lot have quit selling because of having to deal with disgruntled buyers who don't understand the risks even tho they say they do.

Eggs are not insurable by the PO unfortunately. Most sellers of goods who can insure their package have some sort of disclaimer that if you don't buy the insurance your package won't be replaced....or they include the cost of insurance in the shipping & handling charge. Unfortunately that is not an option for anyone who sells hatching eggs thru the mail.

Well, I do understand the risks and have accepted them. Disregarding marking of packages is wrong. Treating sellers like they are wrong when they ask for you to fix your mistake is wrong. IMO sellers should learn to work with buyers when it is neither's fault for a PO mistake. That's how I plan to be. It just makes good business sense to me.

You're right, not all sellers, even when CLEARLY asked, will put your phone number on the box and hold for pickup. It is irritating to say the least. I have had those who did and was so thankful. You see, I live in a very rural area. The box of eggs will be have a long day traveling on bumpy roads in the mail carrier's vehicle. Even though the eggs were likely already subject to abuse in the mail system, I can prevent that last day by picking them up from the post office myself. Seriously, the post office is three miles away. To me, it is worth it!

One seller, after a previous one didn't put my number and hold for pickup on the box, I reminded them when A: I won the auction B: when I paid through paypal and the message added in to be sent with payment and C: the Sunday before they were going to ship on Monday. Guess what? They put the box in the mail as normal with no message! Thankfully I was getting another box of eggs and it arrived with the other one, and that box was clearly marked. So I picked up both on my run, since the postmaster knew it was silly to have me pickup one and then have the mail carrier deliver the other.

When I was selling I had very few people request that their phone number be written on the package, but if they did I made sure it was on there.

I've bought lots of eggs over the last few years and I never have requested that my phone number be on it. I know it doesn't always get done or that the PO won't see it anyway.

What I always do (and I'm also very rural and my PO is very small) I always call my PO the day before I expect the package and tell them there's going to be a box coming in. I've always figured that was the safest way to make sure my packages was held there till I picked it up.

I completely understand. I always send them a PM and through paypal and still it is sent unmarked. I'm more then 10 miles away but I pass the PO on my way home from work everyday. We are a working family so no one is home until after 3pm. Our mail travels bumpy back roads and in the heat as well.

It is no up to the seller to determine whether the PO will see it or not. Some POs, like mine, actually do pay attention and if a buyer asks for it to be done, then it should be done. It's being asked for a reason. I understand Katy, as a seller you're going to take up for sellers but buyer requests should be listen to and adhered to. I know my PO so I feel safe asking for my packages to be marked.
