Where Is The Best Place To Live In The USA?

It's rediculious what they're doing to my state. They move to the south in search of a peaceful, southern, country setting and end up turning the south into some big development project.

I HATE (!!!!!!!) people who move to the south and then say North Carolinians should be HAPPY that they're here because we couldn't make a dime without them. That they're helping us make money. Well, what the hell do y'all think we did before you moved here. We weren't the starving poor white trash y'all think we were.

I HATE people who move down south and like to pick on my accent. You're in the south dumba$$. This is the way we talk...get over it.

I HATE that every time I go for a ride in the (what used to be) country there's another freakin dag on SUBDIVISION going up.

You know what I do LOVE though. I love that people move to NC thinking they're moving to this wonderfully mild weathered state and then they get hit by 100% humidity...100+ degree weather AND drought. But like the old folks said, "Air conditioning will be the ruin of the south". And ain't that the truth!

That's my rant. I'm not bitter though.

None of my rant was directed towards you. However if you' re looking for the country life, it's sad to say, you won't find it in NC.

I have to agree with Pattycake. I live in Upstate NY ( just outside Rochester ) Housing is cheap here. I would really reccomend anywhere in the Northeast. You're not too far from the coast, and most of it is not rocky. Connecticut is expensive, and so is Mass. but beautiful. You may want to consider Vermont ( my favorite rural place) NY has LOTS of rural areas too. Most people think of NY and think of the big Apple. Not so. It's a huge state. Taxes can be high, but I really love it here. No tornados, hurricanes, mudslides, lethal snakes or spiders. Your biggest issue is being snow bound sometimes, so just make a fire, brew some coffee and enjoy! We have lots of people leaving NY for N. Carolina and other southern states due to the job market. But if that is not a concern too much for you, I'd look out this way.

Good luck in your adventures!

Trisha just reflects how a lot of native North Carolinians feel about seeing their home state become a victim of its own success.

The things that made it so attractive to so many people are now QUICKLY disappearing because so many people came here. All my life we had a 4% sales tax. Within the past 10 years it has doubled in places. And our roads are clogged and our schools are in decline and the taxes keep going up and the legislature goes into special session and offers $MILLIONS$ of incentives to corporations so that people will just keep on coming.

It's very depressing seeing our way of life come to an end.

I am very bias, but I'd have to go for the Dakota's because there is a lot of room to roam here, lots of land for sale. Yes in some places we are 2 hours away or more to Wal mart, but if you live a simple life you don't need walmart for everything. I like living in the middle of everywhere! The land prices aren't very high and we have good people in west river South Dakota. Yes it gets cold here, but the last few winters here have been very warm considering.
