Where is the learning in showing? Exhibitors? Judges?

Bob,
The bird in your avatar, is that your "Black Spur"?

Chris

Yes that is Black Spur number one. He produced three great ckls last year and two pullets. I shiped his bests one to a freind in Arkansas and he hatched 25 chicks. Every male had a black spur. The best bird of the year was a female . My best bird shown last weekend by the judge was a pullet. All my males this year have black spurs. The trait of black spurs I want on all my males and this is from the large fow that I used twenty years agol. I have never seen a bantam with black spurs untill I made this cross. But you have never seen a Red bantam that was shrunk down from large fowl also. bob

A couple of people have said, for example:

You need to find as many books as you can and read as much as you can. When we first started we had an EXCELLENT 4-H leader, and I learned a lot from him, his knowledge was so great. There are MANY excellent books that would be advantageous to those starting.

WHAT books? Titles, authors!

Our three county rural library system only has a few books about chickens (one of which is the SOP, which is nice). I'm making some donations to change that, as I find books that I find helpful. Searching Amazon doesn't provide much help either.

It literally took me three seconds to find this list, and its by no means complete.
