WHere is your brooder???

Yes........the dust is the worst..........I can dust in the morning and by the afternoon, it is covering stuff again. And I have a small window type screen over it, and still doesn't keep the dust from flying out.

I guess first you kind of have to understand we live in a deactivated Naval Ammunition Depot building. It is large and has a lot of open spaces the house area is large and has a large home office/shop in it.

Last year we use the built a small temporary brooder in what we call the bay. It housed 6 pullets and one cockerel until we got the coop finished. (Sexing chicks is not 100% accurate, we went back to the farm store and got another pullet, we didn't want to hatch eggs so the roster is kept separated.)

This year we started with 105 qt plastic containers with some fancy tops, placed in a corner of my Wives Home office/shop. They out grow those in about a week. So we used some small panels we use to protect new trees, to nock together three brooders in the same place, one was 2 foot by 6 foot and two 2 foot by 3 foot.

Last week the out grow those so I built another temp cage for the broilers out in the are we call the Bay. It's 8 foot by 8 foot 6.5 feet tall, built from some lumber I got from a trailer house we are tearing apart for building materials.

We moved the Turkey chicks to the large brooder, and cut the wire between the two
small brooders for the ladies. We had to switch the layers to a red light to help calm them down some.

Fortunately this is a slow time of the year for my wives business so all the dust isn't causing to much of a problem.

i have my chicken hutch in my bedroom and their are 2 chicks, they do not smell, i justhad to move them out cause my sister dosn't like their constant noises but they do not stink they get a smell like like at 8 weeks but its not stinky.fornow they are on my backporch.
