Where to add vents

My current coop is a dog kennel with a closed roof and side.
For winter I plan on enclosing it to keep out snow and wind. But I know I'll need some ventilation
I was debating on adding it to the bottom, like keeping about a foot open for air flow, verses the top, which would allow snow in

The reason to have vents up higher is to let warm moist air out. If you're afraid of snow or rain getting in, louvered covers or awning style covers can help.
