Where to buy day old laying hens

I am new at raising chickens. I want to buy 6 day old chicks in early May and I don’t want any roosters. I’m located in Northwest Missouri. What hatchery do you recommend that I mail order from? Thanks!

Chicken Scratch Poultry is good, they have chicks and started pullets (day-old chicks and eight-week-old chicks). They’re in McLeansboro, Illinois.

You can’t order a six-day-old chick through the mail.

Now, if you're wanting to order day old chicks in a quantity of 6 chicks, almost any hatchery can help you, although there may be small order charges. Suggest visiting a farm store and getting them in person so you can skip the shipping and the wait.

Local, family-owned businesses might be more likely to guarantee pullets as opposed to the chain stores like Tractor Supply.

If you don't mind shipping chicks, both My Pet Chickens and Meyer Hatchery has great selection and customer service and sex guarantee. Their minimum starting in Apr is 3. I've got some coming from Meyer's in May myself!

If you get eight-week-olds you only have to get one (that’s what I did).
