FYI, regarding Modesto Milling: the second ingredient in their list is soy

I'm looking for local sources of grains to mix my own.

I was just going to add y'all to the list! I haven't used your feed yet but I bought some at Urban Farm Store ( 2100 SE Belmont St. Portland, OR, (503) 234-7733. I will start using it when I've used up all of the Payback food I had already purchased. Concentrates and Urban Farm Store also carry the Payback.

Aloha Feed carries an organic feed. I think they said it was the Purina product but I'm not buying that.

Hi!

Colorado Agri-Feed in Colorado Springs CO is carrying Ranch-Way Feed's Organic feeds. Feed is milled in Ft. Collins CO. I would guess any Ranch-Way dealer could order it.

I have been wanting to offer a lot of different organic animal feeds on our web site at dirtworks.net. Unfortunately market forces make it very hard to make any money doing it.

One thing as a seller you come across right away is how little people want to spend on animal feed organic or not. That's just tradition in agriculture and it needs to change. I drive around Vermont and see satellite dishes and boats in people's yards all the time but for some reason people pay for those things without much complaint but when it comes to food people complain about the price everyday.
Two, feed prices are set on the commodities exchange and the prices are always changing and that makes it hard to settle on a price. One way to avoid this as a seller is to inventory a lot of it at a time but that ties up lots of money in a product that has a very slim margin. If you damage even a couple of bags on a pallet or the mice get into it which they often do that could cost you all the profit on that load.
These reasons and others is why it's so hard to find the stuff for sale steadily anywhere. I'm going to stay at it and do what I can to offer it to my customers but until people are willing to lobby for lower cable bills instead of lower food bills the struggle for safe food will continue.

McGeary Organics is in Lancaster. They sell organic feed & grains as far as I know. Google them, they have a website. Depending onn where you are Organics Unlimited Is in Atglen Chester County, not far from the Lancaster County border. You can pick up at the mill. They sell organic & No-soy organic. Neither of the above seem to have a big distributor network, but if you are close to either mill, it would work. Hope this helps.
