Where to get exhibiton/show quality silkies?

Hi. :frow

I'm under the impression that splash is not an accepted show color. And paint... I'm not sure that is either.

I am working with paint right now... but it's been a slow process building my stock. And I truly know nothing about showing since I do this for ME for fun... but I do work hard to meet the standards where possible. And I suggest bearded. Two of my favorite Silkie colors. :love

Though I'm hoping (even working on side pen projects for generations) desperately for Lavender and considering switching my blues over to JUST splash or partridge... OH and maybe cuckoo! :wee

The genetics learning and research that goes into these things has been a lot of fun... and never ending.

If you some how head to California next spring, might be able to get you some good ones with advance notice... but I'm not NPIP so can't ship legally. Not sure if I will pursue NPIP or not.

My best suggestion would be to check out...

Or check your local craigslist farm and garden section.

Or order from a hatchery and select the best to keep, maybe sell the rest. If you have the time to breed... bearding SEEMS dominant in my matings so you could get rid of non bearded in one generation. My pet chicken MIGHT even be the only place that offers sexed Silkies.

You might have luck with indigo eggs if you google them.. so far I don't think I received contact back from them yet. So I might try again in case it failed somehow. :caf

Good luck finding great stock! :fl
