Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?

I had JUST been released from the hospital after having a Total Thyroidectomy with complications from the anesthesia. I had an incision all the way across my throat covered with only a bandage and was very weak and in pain and in a bathrobe recuperating on the couch. At the time I lived near an Air Force Base and the local news was warning of it being a possible target, because at the time the attacks were still in progress and no one knew what might be next. I remember feeling very helpless and scared because I was in such a compromised physical state and they were talking about possibly evacuating the area. My then husband was working out of state, so I was alone, making it even scarier because I was practically helpless at the time, not even able to drive. I watched TV stunned, horrified, crying. The fear for my own safety was quickly replaced by the horror of seeing those people jumping out of the towers. That's all I can type, it's too emotional.

That is the thing, I can not imagine why the schools let the kids out early that day even it was so far away. I don't think we had kids getting out of school early here.

I do remember seeing the gas stations scalping drivers, hiking the gas prices up to five dollars a gallon and LONG lines to the gas stations all over town. It was ridiculous and glad I didn't need gas. I think in the next day, the president or some official will start tracking down gas station owners for taking advantage of this event to pocket more money, feeding the frenzy panic and every one of them had to pay the extra money owed to the drivers. Just sick!

My husband and I were at work, immediately sent grandparents
to pick up children at school. Had no idea what might
happen next. Wanted them to be with family!

I was in coeur d' alene. My DH and I where engaged so we where doing wedding stuff. I was with my mom and sister. I remember exactly where we where at. Heard it all on the radio as we didn't and still do not have TV.

I was working my job as plant manager of a cabinet factory,I happened to go across the lot to the main office and everyone was watching a tiny tv. I ran back to my company and gathered the workers and told them what had happened. I spent the rest of the day going back and forth getting and giving updates. I wanted to send the people home so They could see it but the boss in charge said no. We were really anxious because the main owner of the plant was on vacation in DC and was supposed to visit NYC and the Towers that day. With the jammed phone lines it was hours before we found out they had changed plans and were okay.I think people should be allowed to go home on days like that and see and prepare themselves if need be for what ever happens. How about you guys,do you agree or not.

I had just gotten to work and turned on the tv when I saw the 2nd plane fly right into the second tower. I hadn't had the tv on yet that morning, so I didn't realize what I was seeing. I actually thought that there was a glitch in the airport computer system. When the plane hit the Pentagon, that's when I got really scared.

Later that day, we had fighter planes racing over our house for hours. It was really scary.

The next morning, there was a smoky haze in the air, the sun was filtering through it, and there was a definite smell.

So many people that were lost in those towers lived in my town.

There were people driving around with full sized American flags sticking off of their cars. Everyone was so nice to each other. I never saw so many people in church that Sunday.

I agree. As I said earlier, my youngest son was in Basic Training at the time, and the Army let them all call home later that day. Sooo tragic.

Totally agree. Although, we should all be
PREPARED! and now!

I was on my honeymoon in Hawaii. Hubby and I were waiting outside our hotel for the tour bus
to take us to Pearl Harbor. Little did we know that New York has been hit with greater loss of life
that at Pearl Harbor. We found out when the tour was cancelled because all national parks were closed.

It was really strange to be in paradise during that time.
Candle light viguals were taking place on the beach for the victims of 9/11.

When we finally got to go see pearl Harbor several days later. It was a breath taking sight
to see the American flag at half staff on the Pearl Harbor Memorial for New York. A picture that will
remain in my memory for as long as I live. Pearl Harbor at Half Mast for 9/11. A time less picture.

The ride home on a 767 was probably the most spooky ride that I have ever taken in a plane.
I used to fly them before I was married so for a pilot to say this is quite serious.

In the classroom with 4th/5th graders. Parents began pulling their kids out, and one student who'd been pulled came back in and told me that someone had set off a bomb in the twin towers. It didn't make any sense to me...I didn't know what in the world he was talking about. Then an announcement was made that we might want to turn the television on, and the "real" story unfolded. The kids handled it really well that day, but I don't think we got a whole lot done. I can't believe it's been almost 10 years...

where was I ?
I was with my mom at her house, she called me into her bedroom to look at the news. we were hugging eachother, thought "this was the end of the world" and I was also off from work at Delta Airlines that day..... I still remember going in the next day. Military was all over the quiet empty airport. Was so sad. I knew of people who knew of some airline flight crew they lost on the planes. I have been working for this airline for 13 years next month, still remember how flying you still be such fun. Like you actually dressed up to take a flight, put yourself together etc. Now, not so much. just another transportation.
I also am sad for the new yorkers who lost their. I have visited ground zero twice in the years. First time was a month after the incident. chilling beyond words. I love our country and stand behind our military 100percent. just imo. experiences etc.
