Where's the grammar police??

You all should remember that the our ancestors that died for our right to have free speech most could not read or write. How unfortunate for us it would have been if they were not allowed to fight. All just because of grammar. I do not remember our constitution saying anything of proper grammar to retain rights as a citizen. I find snobs much more annoying than most thangs, but I have most the time the ability to let ignorance slide.

Remember too if you go where you are not familiar with customs you too by your standards are less than smart. I can get away with being ignorant of customs because I do not profess to know everything.

Oh people Chillax!

I AM grading papers!! And I am reading college level papers where people cannot get the difference between the terms correct and I even have one handed in right now with LOL in the text!!

I have also watched people lose job opportunities because they said things like "I seen".

I do not always get things correct as is evident in this thread, but we can all do our best to learn something new every day.

This thread was not aimed at anyone, my own husband and daughter are dyslexic, so chill. I do not look down my over educated nose at people who do not speak or write in proper english all of the time, but does it really hurt to try sometimes?

I can't believe this thread, judging a person's worth on grammar. Obviously, some occupations need proper English, a news anchor for one, but we aren't talking about a news anchor, are we?

My grandmother had very little education (because she had to work her butt off), but she owned two apartment houses in the 1950s. When her tenants couldn't pay the rent, she carried sacks of groceries to them. No one ever went hungry in her presence. Is she a person someone wouldn't hire because of her English?

IMO, proper English is important, but the person is more important.

Whatever. Everybody has pet peeves. We can't help it if some grammar mistakes bother us. I think this thread has gone off on a tanget and people are starting to get defensive.
