Warm.... Under a blanket... In Alaska...
So I meandered over to this section and decided to ask y'all a question
Out of ostriches, emus and rheas, which are more friendly?
When we were in Texas, we went through a lot of petting zoos, and ALL the emus were friendly, but all the rheas were little devils!!! There was one who'd take food from your hand but attempt to remove your finger as well.
We only saw one ostrich, and it wasn't tame really, but it didn't attempt to remove my finger....
There was one rhea who was so sweet though. It was white (ok no idea if it was a rhea actually) had big blue eyes, was all poofy and wouldn't eat from your hand but would take the food if you through it in the air.
So what's your guys personal experience with which seems more friendly?

800

800

Sweety pie rhea

Did you happen to go to Topsey Ranch?

They are in our neck of the woods!

Yes we did and the camel almost bit off my moms hand LOL. He also took an entire bag of food from across my lap, LOL. Very fun, that's where we saw the white rhea I believe. Idk we went to a lot, haha.
But I loved that ranch!

Emus are by far the most docile species of Ratite. Rhea and Ostrich males get very aggressive and it doesnt matter if you hand raise them from chicks, this actually makes them worse because they have less fear of humans. The female Rhea and Ostrich stay friendly, but usually wont let you pet them, some will however, just depends on how much contact you have with them growing up. Both male and female Emus get very tame, and stay tame, though there are occasional hens that get mean since they are the dominant sex in the species, and this is usually if they sense you are scared of them, or you put yourself in the position to seem inferior to them, then they may try to boss you around.
