which breed!!!!!!! Anconas... Or swedishes!!!!!!!!! Help!!!

ok, just found out that it would be $101.50 to buy and ship out 10 TSQ (top show quality) welshie ducklings from holderreads.... thats alot!!! lol!

Holderreads has great stock for sure, but are not the only source for quality fowl. Maybe take the time to search out the others who breed quality ducks and what their prices are. Also just because you order from the top does not make every duckling show worthy. Just wanted to point that out so you are aware that even the high priced ducklings will have culling that needs to happen for a breeding program.

Now a subject that hasn't been mentioned is selling of hatching eggs and live birds. Since you are still a minor is your mom going to become NPIP to include your ducks? You will need this to ship, and more for states like VA. Something else to think about. If she doesn't want to do that, then selling only locally would be your option. If ths is the case does your local market have a want for high quality ducks and the prices they get?

Just more to think about since there is a difference between pet quality duck prices, and show duck prices.

I live in western NC about 2 hrs or a little less from TN state line whats the name of the hatchery? And what do they sell? I had no idea there was one anywhere near this area

Kenneth

Oh by the way good luck with your decision it always tough deciding on a breed I have Muscovies ended up with my first at a local sell wondering why I even bid on them I bought 5 more last week from a local breeder and absolutely love them

Kenneth,
We are in GA near Atlanta and breed all colors of Anconas. We are NPIP certified and travelling through TN frequently. We'd love to ship you eggs or maybe even ducklings this Spring.

we have no GOOD quality WH breeds here.... Heck, there is only ONE WH breeder here. And not the best stock..... I would like to get arounf 10 TSQ WH ducklings from metzers, and then sell/cull the ones that arent good. And keep the ones that are... This sounds like it could be a great project!.....

Sounds like a project worth setting small goals and improving gradually over a number of years. Don't take anything that is mentioned to negatively. Most is just to help slow down the decision making and to help guide you properly.

Another item I thought of with selling/shipping. Will your mom help you by listing the eggs or animals as well as becoming NPIP? Selling only local can tap out your market. Again goes with will the local market pay the higher prices for better quality ducks, over those sold by the local feed stores in the spring for much less?

As already mentioned its a certification, and one needed to ship though the postal service. Google NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) to find out the info and intact for your state.
