Which breed of rooster makes the most traditional Cock-A-Doodle-Doo?

So what breed is he?
He's the generic red one that came in the heavy breed assortment. I'm not up on my red chicken breeds so I can't tell you.

It's also kind of hard to know what is the "traditional" crow. My SLW has a multi-syllable crow (haven't really counted, so I'm not sure how many it is), but his is the higher pitched crow, and not much difference in tone from one to the next. Not sure which one sounds like he's being choked. I don't always see them in the act.

Hmmm... this is interesting.

I just opened the door and closed it so Charlie my Buff Orpington would crow

(Couldn't remember how may "syllables" he uses).

4 is what he does, so it would be COCK - A - DOODLE - DO

More like errr-ERRRR-Errr-urrr

(4 distinct syllables)

I do like Charlie's crow though. I can hear a neighbor's rooster occasionally and it sound like a strangled RRR-RRR.

This seems to be most common with mine, too, no matter what volume or tone they have.

That is 5 syllables...despite only 3 dashes added.
Doodle is pronounced doo-dle.
I know, I know...picky semantic details<rolleyes>

Well, it's 4 distinct sounds that come out of his beak

- he doesn't quite get the -dle out, it's more like Cock - A - DODDDD - Doooooo

@aart after I post and logged off, I suspected, your picky self would catch it

That's the most 'crow' I have ever heard from a real rooster, real as opposed to the stereotypical 'Cartoon 'Roo'. My current Crower, a Black Australorp, gives a 4-note "ERR-er-ERR-rrrr" type crow, but most of mine just give the first three syllables. Good luck on your search; roosters are the easiest to talk their owners out of, at least.

Just to add a little more to think about. When I listen to my roosters crow and respond, from the coop to the one in the barn, and the bachelor pad if its occupied, I seem to hear them change up on how they crow. Might be just them changing up for the heck of it. Or they are just mispronouncing their crow. Maybe I am just hearing things.
