I currently have 5 ex-battery hens (not sure what breed or mix of breeds they are - will attach photo) and would like 5 more hens. I'm debating getting a different breed, something more interesting looking...

Can I just choose any breed, or would I be best going for something of a similar size/gentle temperament?

We live in Ireland and so get plenty of rain, so maybe not something with feathery feet.

Room can make a difference on whether bird will be aggressive. The smaller the space the more important it is to pick docile breeds. Breeds that I have read that can be aggressive under confinement are Rhode island red, Wyandotte, and even some Orpingtons. Some docile breeds are Sussex, faverolle, and barnevelder. But in every breed differences can be seen. And with you being in a different country my suggestions may mean nothing. Breeding can dictate personality as well.
